Augment the size and shape of the buttocks by lipofilling
Also known as the BBL or Brazilian Lifting, increasing the volume of the buttocks by lipofilling consists of removing fat from different parts of the body and then injecting it into the buttocks. This technique is therefore natural and its effects long-lasting over time. This technique is different from the Colombian butt lift which is not an operation but a system of suction cups applied to the buttocks to theoretically increase their volume.
Why opt for a Brazilian butt Lift ?
Women who have lost the curve of their buttocks or who wish to have plumper and firmer buttocks often opt for lipofilling of the buttocks (the Brazilian butt lift). This process also allows them to enhance their buttocks so that they can find the body shape that suits them best.
The technique of increasing the volume of the buttocks by lipofilling is popular with many patients, the “product” injected into their buttocks being none other than their own fat. This solution not only allows them to reshape their buttocks but also their bodies by liposuction of excess fat that lines their abdomen or hips (among other possible areas). This procedure is also indicated for patients who have saddlebag thighs and who wish to remove them at the same time.
The increase in buttock volume by lipofilling is especially appreciated for its naturalness because, unlike buttock implants, the material used to reshape the buttocks comes from the patient’s own body. The result is therefore very harmonious whilst respecting the overall morphology of the individual. Finally, another great advantage of the Brazilian butt lift or BBL is the absence of a scar after the operation.
What happens before the operation?
The operation to increase the volume of the buttocks by lipofilling must be preceded by at least one preoperative consultation. The surgeon, Dr. Vincent Masson, and the anesthesiologist will carry out a medical “check-up” and give their advice so that the patient can begin their physical and mental preparation for the surgical procedure. They will be asked to stop smoking during the weeks preceding the operation, and to stop taking anti-inflammatory drugs and drugs comprising an anticoagulant (for example aspirin) 10 days before the Brazilian butt lift operation is scheduled.
Finally, it is important to know that if a patient has followed a drastic diet and no longer has much fat mass left on their body, they will not be able to undergo this procedure. They may nevertheless have recourse to increasing the gluteal volume by fitting prosthetic implants or injections of hyaluronic acid, but these have the drawback of being absorbable.
How is the operation carried out?
The operation takes place under general anesthesia most of the time and lasts for 2 to 3 hours depending on its scope. The surgeon will trace the areas to be treated on both buttocks and will then perform liposuction (suction of fat) in the belly, thighs or other areas where it is present in excess. These areas will have been previously defined by the patient and the surgeon during a consultation. These fat cells will then be purified by centrifugation (using the Coleman technique) and reinjected into the buttocks through small incisions, which will then be sutured. The purpose of this technique is to reshape the buttocks, redefine them, and increase their volume.
Two sessions are sometimes necessary so that the desired volume is reached or if the two buttocks are not symmetrical after the first operation. It is important to emphasize that 30% of the injected fat will dissolve in the first 3 months following the operation. The before and after result of a BBL, Brazilian butt lift, or Brazilian lifting is therefore seen at 3 months after the procedure. The result then remains final unless the weight of the patient varies. Dr. Masson recommends this procedure for patients who have a stable weight.
What are the post-operative effects?
It is possible to carry out the operation on an outpatient basis and sometimes a day’s hospitalization is required after the buttock enlargement by lipofilling. The patient will have to wait a few days before sitting down and wait about 3 months before practicing any sport involving significant work of the gluteal muscles. The surgeon may prescribe anticoagulant injections, which will have to be performed by a nurse where the patient lives. Finally, a compression sheath is to be worn for 6 weeks after the operation and 7 to 15 days of time off work is to be expected.
What are the risks associated with the Brazilian butt lift?
As with any surgical procedure, there are risks of complications which are nevertheless quite rare: thromboembolic accidents, bleeding, hematomas and lymphatic effusions, modification of sensitivity or infection are some of the possible complications of the increase in gluteal volume by lipofilling. In practice, the main risk is an intraoperative fat embolism. The pain is proportional to the quantity of fat sucked in and reinjected and is generally well tolerated by the use of painkillers which are prescribed by the surgeon.
What is the average price of a butt lift?
The price is actually very variable depending on the exact procedures to perform and this is why nothing can replace a consultation with the cosmetic surgeon. However, count upon a minimum budget of 7,500 euros for this type of operation.
Is there another alternative to the Brazilian butt lift?
Yes, hyaluronic acid injections such as HYAcorp give excellent results in cases where the patient does not have enough fat to perform lipofilling.
